THE WESTERN DIGITAL MYBOOK WORLD EDITION
Western Digital (WD) has gone a notch higher with their digital external hard drive. WD’s ‘My book’ allows for the easy access and sharing of files between different users. It goes for three hundred and eighty UD dollars. This price is reasonable considering the fact that it caters for networking and back up of files. One of the major disadvantages of this type of WD external hard drive is that it is not time effective; it is very slow compared to other models. Apart from that, it does not come with a server for print or media services.
This model resembles the desktop created for this particular line. But it differs from the Premium edition when it comes to the sleek outer surface. The world edition is designed to sit in a vertical position. Its edges are in Morse code so as to speed up cooling. The book’s spine has a button that is enclosed in double LED rings. While the ring on the inside gauges capacity, the one on the outside indicates activity. The port used to connect this drive to the router can be found on the back edge.
This WD external hard drive has one, 500 GB hard drive. The updated version has two hard drives and a storage capacity of 1TB. The second model has RAID properties. After installing the software, the drive can be seen on your system. You will be able to access files from this drive easily. For each system that will have the backup software, you will be able to create back up documents.
This external hard drive can be accessed from anywhere as long as it is compatible with the system. Sharing of the contents of this WD external hard drive is easy; all you need to do is click on the share tab and select the information you wish to share. The only limitation is that there are files that are not supported by this function.
The WD ‘My Book World’ Edition is highly lacking in terms of speed. It is not the most ideal for people looking for fast external drives. Despite that, it is very easy to use. It is a cross breed of Mio Net and WD technologies. Your initial installation of the software is via a CD. You will also need to install the software for each computer you will use with your hard disk. You can do this by installing your software from the 5 free installations offered by the Mio Net website.
